Artist

Willie Crockett

Willie Crockett, the artist at Crockett Gallery spoke with the strong dialect unique to Tangier Island where he was born.  He painted with the strength of a lifelong intimate knowledge of the marshes where he grew up fishing and hunting waterfowl.  Mr. Crockett, best known for his water color landscapes, was inspired by his love of the Chesapeake Bay and the salt water marshes where he grew up hunting and fishing.

His paintings are recognized as being among the most honest portrayals of Chesapeake Bay drama and beauty.  Best known for his wildlife art, Willie transmits to his painting an ever fresh view of the Eastern Shore landscape, the wildfowl and the marsh.  An occasional easy transition into colorful abstracts and flowers speaks to the versatility of the painter and the sensitivity of the man.

On March 8, 2021, Willie Crockett passed away, leaving behind many signed and unsigned works available for purchase.  His art gallery remains open in Onancock, VA.

Artist

Patrick Henry

Through the use of color, texture and contrast, Mr. Henry captures the light, land and the timeless character of the Eastern Shore.  His landscapes invite you to enjoy the impressions of places you may wish to visit.

Painter

Nancy Richards West

Painting and drawing on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, has been an inspiration to Nancy since she moved to the Island of Chincoteague in 1974.  The birds, skies, marshes, beaches and ocean that surround her provides an endless supply of ideas for her paintings.  She especially enjoys packing up her gear and heading out into nature to paint a scene "en plein air."

Never content with painting in her comfort zone, she is always challenging herself with new subject matter, styles of painting and even new art mediums for expressing her ideas.

Her first choice of medium is oil, preferring a delicate touch and multiple translucent layers of paint.  She also enjoys working with pencils, pastels or sumi-e ink. She is even trying Chinese calligraphy as well.

Painter

Ellen Lawler

Ellen's watercolor paintings of birds and nature reflect her deep appreciation for the beauty and diversity of our natural heritage.  She has lived in Salisbury, MD for over 30 years, and recently retired from the Biology Department at Salisbury University.  Ellen spends much time in the field - observing, photographing and sketching.  This first- hand experience helps her capture the essential features of her subjects in her finished work, which has been exhibited and received awards at numerous shows on Delmarva.  As an educator, Ellen hopes her work encourages others to take a closer look at the beauty all around us.

Artist

Cheryl Taylor

Cheryl Taylor is a self-taught artist that began painting as a source of stress relief from the daily grind of the business world.  She gets her inspiration from the beautiful Chincoteague Island, Virginia.  The breathtaking sunrises and sunsets, to the abundant flora and wildlife: all offer her a wonderful pallet to inspire her coastal creations. Her mediums include: acrylic, water colors, alcohol ink, pastels, photography, working with shells, driftwood and other nature provided found objects.  In addition, she repurposes and beautifies furniture thought to be at the end of its useful life.  She has taught various painting classes locally and is a member of the Art League of Ocean City, the Chincoteague Cultural Alliance and shows her work in many shows throughout the year.  Additionally, she is an active volunteer in multiple local community organizations. All creations are coastal inspired, either in color, materials for the creation or theme.  Available for custom orders.  For more information, please visit her website by clicking the button below.

Clay Artist

Marie A Cavallaro

Ms. Cavallaro is a longtime clay artist who states "clay is my choice of medium for creating a diary in images not words.  Most of my art is created from travel memories and other life experiences recorded in sketches and photos and then transformed into 3D clay sculptures.  My art reflects the environment that surrounds me- the ocean, its beaches, flowers and tranquil settings.  Surprises from a Raku glaze or limited use of colored glazes accents the clay form to reveal its own color."  She believe that "color is decoration; form is truth."

Decoy Artist

J.P. White

Mr. White retired to his family's roots in Marion Station on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.  He uses creative simplicity to carve his shorebirds from the local Loblolly Pine and Red Cedar.  The beaks on his birds are fashioned with iron nails.
