Environmental Science & Animal Husbandry

Have an interest in Animals?

Our environmental Science and Animal Husbandry interns will be responsible for educating visitors about the creatures.   Your internship will include learning about the otters and how to care for them, as well as, the reptile and fish ambassadors that we have in the building.  You will use your lab skills in testing the variety of water qualities in the various tanks we have within the museum.  While the museum is open to the public you will participate in the reptile encounters, handling and educating museum visitors about the various reptiles we have housed here.  Our interns will work with the education interns to provide assistance as needed for field trips.

History

Do you have a passion for history?

Our History Interns will serve as docents within our museum.  They will provide programs that focus on the history of Delmarva.  We have a unique history that is featured including: ship-building, Decoy carving, commercial fishing and oyster harvesting, and the history of the indigenous peoples of Delmarva.  Use your archiving and research skills to help bring new programs to the museum.

Education & World Languages

Want to use your education background in an unconventional way?

Do you have a passion for languages and want to bring that skill to the community?

Education is at the heart of this museum.  For our education interns it is an opportunity to test their program building skills in a non-traditional environment. As an intern you will be responsible for teaching in our STEAM room during field trips.  Have an idea for a new program? Great! We love seeing the history of Delmarva connected to our modern times.  History not your thing? There are plenty of environmental connections you can make programs for! We would love to see you create a legacy project that stays with the museum once you leave!

Languages open the world to those who use them!  Our World Language interns will serve as interpreters and work in tandem with our Education and Marketing Interns to create an environment that is not only open to English speakers but speakers of languages other than English.

“Ashley is an environmental studies major with a biology minor at Salisbury University. During her internship she got to participate in water testing to monitor the quality of our tanks to ensure habitats were safe and healthy. She also had the opportunity to feed our various fish, reptiles, and amphibians. Behind the scenes Ashley was able to combine her appreciation of both animals and art by helping to create multiple projects for the museum. These included making three dimensional shark models and a custom coloring book featuring our animals for visitors to enjoy.”
