Bass Fisheries

of the Chesapeake Bay

Wednesday, August 11

7:00pm

Originally introduced to Maryland in the 1800's, the largemouth bass now occurs in most tidal rivers of the Chesapeake Bay. Largemouth bass is a popular inland fish targeted by many freshwater anglers. Lower eastern shore rivers of Maryland also offer valuable largemouth bass fisheries. The populations of largemouth bass of the eastern shore are less abundant and productive than other tidally fresh areas of the Chesapeake Bay, possibly because of habitat conditions. Stocking strategies and annual monitoring programs are currently being used to help bolster productivity of these populations. A combination of historical perspective, current monitoring, and future stock rebuilding methods are being used to improve tidal bass fishing opportunities for residents of the lower eastern shore of Maryland.

Joseph W. Love, Ph.D., Tidal Bass Manager at Maryland Department of Natural Resources will share his insight on the bass fisheries of the Chesapeake Bay.

Lecture is free and open to the public.
